How to Telnet into your SMTP Server
This is also a method of send your mail from
another computer that has not got your mail detail setup.
If you are having problems sending mail,
try telneting into your mailbox. This will ensure the SMTP server is
functioning properly. You will need to use a Telnet application to access the
SMTP server. It is EXTREMELY important to specify port 25,
otherwise you will see a message from the SMTP server reading "login:"
and the below procedures will fail. Windows 95/98/NT/XP offers an inbuilt
Telnet application. To use it, open an command Prompt and issue the following
command:
C:>telnet
smtp.iburst.co.za 25

Your next command will be the
rcpt to: followed by the mail
address you are sending a mail to.
Next enter data to start the actual mail subject
and body.
Please note
that the subject: with the body of
the mail is next.
